Apostle Jean Feder Maison’s teaching on marriage provides a strict and specific perspective on divorce and remarriage. For him, marriage is a sacred union established by God between a man and a woman, following the creation account in Genesis 2: “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). The apostle explores this institution from spiritual, social, and legal perspectives, distinguishing between a “true marriage” and a “false marriage.” This doctrine has profound implications for divorce and remarriage, particularly for believers.

In 1 Corinthians 7:10-11, Apostle Paul instructs the Christians in Corinth, “To the married, I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.”

1. Definition and Steps of Marriage

Apostle Maison defines marriage as a sacred union between a man and a woman, structured in three primary dimensions:

  • Spiritual: Marriage is regarded as a commitment before God, requiring the approval of Jesus Christ. This approval is based on the principle that “What God has joined together, let no one separate” (Matthew 19:6). According to the Apostle, marriage must therefore be under divine blessing and fulfill God’s spiritual requirements.
  • Social: Marriage is supported by family, friends, and community, allowing this union to integrate into social life. The Scriptures illustrate this social dimension: “Rejoice in the wife of your youth…may you ever be intoxicated with her love” (Proverbs 5:18-19). This social aspect establishes marriage as a testimony of respect and stability within society.
  • Legal: The State validates this union with a legal document, confirming the marriage in the eyes of earthly authorities. “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities” (Romans 13:1) underscores the importance of respecting civil laws in marriage.

For Apostle Maison, marriage is more than a mere ceremony or civil contract. It is a sacred commitment, requiring honesty and fidelity before God, with spiritual and eternal consequences.

2. True Marriage and False Marriage: A Fundamental Distinction

Apostle Maison distinguishes between true and false marriage, with spiritual criteria to evaluate their authenticity:

  • True marriage: A true marriage receives the approval of Jesus Christ and is officiated by a servant of God whose conduct aligns with biblical principles. Those marrying must maintain a sincere relationship with God. For him, a true marriage is an indissoluble commitment: “Each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband” (Ephesians 5:33). True marriage is thus eternal and unbreakable before God.
  • False marriage: A false marriage, according to Apostle Maison, lacks divine approval and includes unions that do not uphold biblical principles. 2 Timothy 2:19 reminds us: “Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’ and, ‘Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.’” Among false marriages, he lists:
    • Homosexual unions, about Romans 1:26-27, where Paul condemns relations against nature. God has given the mandate to procreate and have dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:27-28).
    • Marriages contracted under sinful conditions or for material reasons, such as marriage solely to obtain residency status. These unions contradict the warning in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15: “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”
    • Marriage of a Servant of God with a Sorcerer or a Witch (Satanist) (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)

For Apostle Maison, divorce is only tolerated in the context of false marriages, as these unions are not sanctified. Divorce, in this case, becomes a solution to release individuals from bonds that do not align with God’s will.

3. Marriage and the Rapture: A Deep Spiritual Perspective

Apostle Maison correlates the spiritual quality of marriage with qualification for the Rapture. He explains that those who are truly married according to divine principles and who maintain a faithful spiritual life will be chosen for the Rapture: “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven… the dead in Christ will rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16). On the other hand, those engaged in non-conforming unions risk being left behind, as their marriage is not considered part of God’s sacred mission.

4. Conclusion

Apostle Jean Feder Maison presents a strict view where divorce and remarriage should only be considered in the context of false marriages. A true marriage, according to him, is a sacred and unalterable commitment, a reflection of divine will. This perspective encourages each believer to seek God’s will in marriage and to maintain spiritual and moral faithfulness, which is essential for a life aligned with heavenly principles. “So they are no longer two, but one flesh” (Matthew 19:6), a powerful reminder that the sacred union is destined to last eternally and that commitments made before God are also honored in heaven.
