Scripture Reference: Isaiah 43:18-19

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

  • Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)

As we stand at the threshold of 2025, it’s natural to reflect on the past year—the triumphs, the trials, the moments of joy, and the periods of sorrow. Yet, as we embark on this new journey, the Word of God invites us to embrace a new start with hope and faith.

Embracing the New

Isaiah 43:18-19 encourages us to forget the former things and not dwell on the past. This doesn’t mean we ignore the lessons we’ve learned or the experiences we’ve had, but rather, we should not let them hold us back or define our future. God is constantly at work, doing something new in our lives.

New Beginnings in the Bible:

  1. Noah and the Ark: After the flood, God gave Noah and his family a new beginning. The rainbow was a sign of God’s promise never to destroy the earth with a flood again (Genesis 9:12-17). This fresh start was filled with God’s promise and hope.
  2. The Exodus: The Israelites’ journey from slavery in Egypt to the Promised Land was a new beginning marked by God’s provision and guidance (Exodus 13:21-22). Despite the challenges, God led them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, ensuring they were never alone.
  3. The Resurrection: The ultimate new beginning came through Jesus Christ. His death and resurrection opened the door for all who believe in experiencing a new life in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17). This transformation is the foundation of our faith and the essence of the Gospel.

Steps to a New Start in 2025

  1. Let Go of the Past: Holding onto past mistakes, failures, or even successes can hinder us from moving forward. Paul advises in Philippians 3:13-14, “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Release the burdens of the past and focus on the future God has for you.
  2. Seek God’s Guidance: Proverbs 3:5- 6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not on our understanding. As we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He promises to direct our paths. In this new year, prioritize seeking His will through prayer and reading His Word.
  3. Embrace Change: Change can be daunting, but it is often where growth happens. Be open to the new opportunities and challenges that come your way. Romans 8:28 assures us that in all things, God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.
  4. Renew Your Mind: Romans 12:2 encourages us not to conform to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by renewing our minds. This renewal allows us to discern God’s will and walk in His ways. Spend time in God’s presence, allowing His Word to renew your thoughts and attitudes.
  5. Cultivate Gratitude: A thankful heart paves the way for a positive outlook and strengthens our faith. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 urges us to give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus. Start each day with a grateful heart, acknowledging God’s blessings and faithfulness.

Conclusion

As we step into 2025, let’s do so with a heart full of hope and trust in God’s promises. He is doing a new thing in our lives—making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Embrace this new beginning with faith, knowing that God is with you every step of the way.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of a new year. Help us to let go of the past and embrace the new things You are doing in our lives. Guide us, renew our minds, and fill our hearts with gratitude. May we walk in Your ways and trust in Your promises, knowing that You are always with us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
