Do You Feel Different? That’s Normal!

Being different is a characteristic or a set of characteristics, that distinguishes one thing or person from another. This is so true that even children born from the same parents often exhibit distinct attitudes and physical traits, despite sharing the same lineage.

So, why should you, as a Christian, feel ashamed of your differences?

In the book of Genesis, God makes a profound statement: “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and the livestock, and all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.'” (Genesis 1:26)

God created humanity in His image and likeness in a general sense. However, individually, based on our faith in Him and our spiritual position, we are different from the world.

Yes, it’s normal to feel different: “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:15-17)

God’s immense love for you is unparalleled, so glorify the Lord even through your differences, which may sometimes bring afflictions. Remember, affliction produces perseverance.

Therefore, defend God’s interests wherever you are: “Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.” (1 Peter 2:12)

Non-believers are watching you closely. They know you’re on the right path, even if they are held captive by their minds and bodies. Show them patience, love, and support; they are also God’s creations. Above all, strive to maintain your distinctiveness—you are a role model.
