Le sermon sur la Montagne (Mathieu 5,6,7) Le sermon sur la Montagne (Mathieu 5,6,7)
In the Christian life, we often encounter biblical passages that resonate deeply with us, offering lessons and encouragement. One such passage is Revelation 3:20, where Jesus says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” This image of Jesus knocking at our door is rich in meaning and teachings for our spiritual life.
The fact that Jesus stands at the door and knocks is a powerful metaphor for His desire for a relationship with us. He does not force His way in but patiently waits for us to respond to His call. This image reminds us that God respects our free will. He loves and calls us, but He leaves us the choice to respond to His invitation.
To open the door, we must first hear His voice. This involves a spiritual sensitivity, a heart disposition that allows us to recognize when God is speaking to us. This can happen through reading the Bible, prayer, or even through the advice of a Christian friend. Cultivating this sensitivity is crucial so that we do not miss the moments when Jesus knocks at our door.
Opening the door to Jesus means accepting His entry into all aspects of our lives. It is not just an initial decision of faith but a continual action of submission and welcome. We must be ready to let Jesus transform our lives, giving Him access to our joys, our sorrows, our successes, and our failures.
The image of dining with Jesus is an image of communion and intimacy. In Jewish culture, sharing a meal was an act of great closeness and friendship. Jesus does not want to be a distant presence in our lives; He desires a deep and intimate relationship with us. Dining with Him means sharing our daily life with Him, letting Him be our confidant and guide.
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.” This invitation from Jesus is a promise of love and communion. Let us respond to His call with an open heart and a willingness to let Him transform our lives. Opening the door to Jesus means allowing Him to be part of our daily life, our decisions, and our relationships. By doing so, we discover a deep and enriching relationship with our Savior.
May this devotion encourage us to always be attentive to Jesus’ voice and to open the door of our hearts to Him each day.
