Learning Christ, Living Differently

“But that is not the way you learned Christ!—assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus.” (Ephesians 4:20-21, ESV)

Have You Truly Learned Christ?

In a world filled with noise, opinions, and shifting moral standards, how do we anchor ourselves in truth?

The apostle Paul, writing to the believers in Ephesus, draws a clear line between the life we once lived — driven by selfish desires and empty thinking — and the life we are now called to live in Christ.

“But that is not the way you learned Christ…”

These words are more than a rebuke; they are an invitation to reflect. Paul doesn’t say, “That’s not what you learned about Christ,” but rather, “That’s not how you learned Christ.” Learning Christ implies deep transformation — not just intellectual knowledge, but personal experience and heart change.

To learn Christ is to encounter Him, hear Him, be taught by Him, and walk with Him. It’s a journey of shedding the old self — the part of us shaped by the world’s lies and temporary pleasures and putting on the new self, shaped by the eternal truth found only in Jesus.

Truth That Transforms

Paul’s words challenge us to consider: If we’ve truly been taught in Christ and have really heard His voice, then our lives should reflect it. The truth that is in Jesus is not just doctrinal; it is convenient. It confronts our attitudes, renews our minds, and shapes our behavior.

Christ doesn’t just inform us — He transforms us.

In Christ, we are no longer defined by who we were. The anger, bitterness, pride, and lust of the “old self” no longer have power when we actively surrender to the Holy Spirit and live according to the truth.

🙏 Prayer

Lord Jesus,
Thank You for being the Truth that sets me free.
Help me to walk in that truth every day.
I surrender the old parts of me — my selfish desires, harmful habits, and worldly ways of thinking.
Teach me to live as one who truly knows You.
Let my life be a reflection of Your love, grace, and holiness.
Amen.

📝 A Simple Step Today

Reflect: Is there a part of your life — a habit, a thought pattern, a relationship — where you’re still living from your “old self”?

➡️ Take a few minutes today to write it down.
➡️ Pray over it.
➡️ Then choose one small action to walk in truth — even if it’s just asking someone to pray with you.

💬 Share Your Thoughts:
Have you had a moment when the truth in Jesus radically changed your perspective? Share in the comments — your story might encourage someone else today.
