Le sermon sur la Montagne (Mathieu 5,6,7) Le sermon sur la Montagne (Mathieu 5,6,7)
Verse: ” One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly but comes to poverty. Proverbs 11:24
The concept of giving is often associated with material gestures, but its depth goes far beyond mere exchanges. Proverbs 11:24 illustrates this richness: “There is one who scatters, yet increases more; and there is one who withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty.”
An Act of Generosity
Giving is an act of generosity that may seem paradoxical. While we sometimes fear losing what we possess, giving releases something within us. It is not limited to money or material goods; it can also include time, emotional support, or skills. Every act of generosity can potentially enrich both the life of the receiver and the giver.
The Emotional Reward
The joy that stems from giving is priceless. Studies show that people who help others—whether through volunteering or simple acts of kindness—are often happier. This joy arises from a sense of belonging, connection, and self-fulfillment. Giving also creates bonds and strengthens our community, reminding us that we are not alone.
A Virtuous Circle
The verse from Proverbs reminds us that giving without expectations can lead to a deeper richness—one of the spirit and heart. By sharing what we have, we open the door to a virtuous cycle. What we sow in the lives of others may return to us in various forms, including friendship, support, or even unexpected opportunities.
The joy of giving is a precious gift we can all share. Whether through simple actions or greater commitments, every gesture matters. So why not embrace this joy and explore the many ways to give? As Proverbs 11:24 suggests, we will discover that true wealth lies in giving.
Giving is receiving in ways we could never have imagined.
Prayer:
Lord, I have meditated on Your Word and now desire to learn to live with a sincere heart, expecting nothing in return. Help me serve my neighbor according to Your will, not for my glory, but solely for Yours.
